!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I tried an idea given to me by a Focus ST forum member, and it got the car "running"...

Basically, I put the car in reverse and started it up. There was a hideous sound that I cannot describe and the car lurched backwards. Basically it was like starting the car and the clutch was engaged, not good at all. :(

The clutch still engages and I could move up and down my street with no problem; but just to be safe, I'm gonna have it towed to the dealer in the morning. I'm probably gonna need a new clutch that I don't wanna have to pay for because this isn't my fault. -_-

Grind it 'till you find it.

If you started in gear and the car lurched, it might just be the clutch cable or hydraulics aren't working right.

Worst case scenario, all the friction material is making up a new flavor of cotton candy for you, and I don't suggest trying it.

Knowing Ford, they won't cover it.

Dear god that's awful. Time to get the 911 working and DD it. Or just get a 2002 or 944.

I sincerely hope so. I don't know what clutch is in the FiST, but I'm hoping it isn't this one.

Hell, I'd take a freaking used Mustang if this shit turns out to be expensive AF! The 911 will be down for a month or too. And the second thing has been done, albeit differently and secretly.

While I reside in the opposing camp (Mk7 GTI), it pains me to hear of a fellow Jalop with a new car experiencing trouble like this. Keep us posted - very curious to hear what the issue is. All the best man, hope Ford covers it as they should.

I would've waited for a Mk7 if my dad hadn't said buy 'Murican car. As my first new car, this really does suck and I hope Ford does something to help. I've got powertrain warranty of course and the car only has 6111 miles!

If it's under warranty IMO you should just have had it towed and that's that.

Might not be the "big-nuts-do-it-yourself" answer but it's a way to get what you paid for. Even if you "fixed it" something might still be damaged or it might be an issue that returns at a later date.

For what it's worth my Ford warranty has more than paid for itself, especially since they tend to replace stuff as assemblies.

Haha, it's not like the FoST was designed/devolped/tested in Europe or anything... lol =P

My 7 is also my first new car, so I can't even imagine how you must feel. I'd be gutted.

You'll likely be covered though. And if not, a few phone calls to Ford corporate should sort things out. Remember to look into your state's lemon laws also. Hope you never have to go that route, but it is an option if your dealer/Ford isn't being cooperative.

He doesn't know about the Euro design, or the outsourced parts. Just the fact that it came with an assembled in Michigan sticker...He's got that old Built in 'Murica sense with newer cars.

I'm so nervous and worried about driving it now, and I gotta take it to work in the morning because the Windstar ran out of freaking gas! I'll need a rental too and I don't wanna pay for that either... :(

Hopefully it'll be covered. I'm prepared to make some calls if I need to. I hope it doesn't go to Lemon Law at all.

I hope they over it, and I think they should, but I don't even know if the clutch is covered under warranty. It's probably considered a wear part like tires are. They may cover part of the cost, but I doubt they'll replace it for free.

Kinja'd!!! K-Roll-PorscheTamer > CRider
07/08/2014 at 22:52

Kinja'd!!!0

wear part or not, I don't believe it should be an issue this early. I'd at least like them to cover half at least or more, or I'll break out the tools and try to do it myself.

Kinja'd!!! jariten1781 > K-Roll-PorscheTamer

That's really weird. Those symptoms are of a fused clutch and flywheel. That happens to old barn find kind of cars that have been sitting outside for years. I've never heard of it on a car that new or one that was driven regularly.

I wonder if the bell housing isn't sealed and it got flooded with moisture somehow. That would cause a thin veneer of rust on the assembly that would cause it to fuse (a lot like a stuck parking brake when parked outside for a weekend). If that's the case it should be good to go after a cleaning up and sealing of the trans. I'd ask for a new clutch and flywheel anyway since it's under warranty.

Kinja'd!!! K-Roll-PorscheTamer > jariten1781
07/08/2014 at 23:11

Kinja'd!!!0

Hopefully the clutch and flywheel are under warranty, since they're technically wear parts and all. The fusing is exactly what a forum member said might have happened. But the question is why if the car i driven every day?

Kinja'd!!! jariten1781 > K-Roll-PorscheTamer
07/08/2014 at 23:51

Kinja'd!!!1

If wear items fail because a non wear-component caused it, in this hypothesis an unsealed bell housing, it would be covered.

Well I'll keep you all updated on the progress. I'm still contemplating driving it there or not. The Windstar might not make it the gas station, necessitating that I drive the ST to get gas and bring it back. Work is a 3 mile trip, and the dealer is 4 miles from work..I might need to take the ST to work as is. -_-
